Inspired by the movie Julie and Julia, frustrated by the overwhelming, yet unsatisfying selection of “health” cookbooks, and an innate love for cooking, I’m taking on a project that hopefully will bring about a new sense of wellness. I’m calling it my PureHealthMD 50 Project. For 50 days, I will shop for, prepare, and enjoy foods that provide nothing but nourishment for the body. If you’re like me, you want to be healthy but sometimes find yourself in the grocery store with no more ideas in the produce section than a rendition of yesterday’s boring salad. And let’s be honest, the salad did nothing for you except leave you wanting the nearest greasy hamburger and fries. The next 50 days will be about branching out, getting creative, and trying new recipes. Who knows, I may not stop at 50! I anticipate making a meal here and there that I don’t love, forgetting that crucial tsp. of cumin, and certainly using the ever-handy fire extinguisher if necessary. But the beauty of life is that it’s not perfect. Living for optimal health is not always perfect, but the next 50 days will be an adventure. And don’t we all need a little adventure?
